Herman Schwartz is a Professor in the Department of Politics at the University of Virginia. Schwartz earned his Ph.D. and M.A. from Cornell University, and his B.A. from Swarthmore College (with distinction). His books include In the Dominions of Debt: Historical Perspectives on Dependent Development, States vs. Markets: The Emergence of a Global Economy, and most recently Subprime Nation: American Power, Global Finance and the Housing Bubble. His current research focuses on the political economy of collective action in an economy in which profitability largely flows from the definition of and control over intellectual property rights.
