Emily is a communications & advocacy strategist at Protect Democracy, where she also serves as Pennsylvania state lead and as communications staff for the National Task Force on Election Crises. Before joining Protect Democracy, Emily was communications director for the Bertelsmann Foundation, a transatlantic think tank, and senior government relations and communications manager with the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI). Prior, based out of Philadelphia, she worked in domestic politics, strategic communications, and organized labor for almost a decade. She has observed elections in El Salvador, Turkey, Ghana, Liberia, Lebanon, Ecuador, Zimbabwe, and Nigeria. Fluent in Spanish, French, and Italian (and working on German and Turkish), the Pennsylvania native’s love for language and culture began in Venezuela, where she lived as a teenager. She holds a master’s degree in international development from Sciences Po Paris and a bachelor’s degree from American University’s School of International Service. Emily is a political partner with the Truman National Security Project and a 2020 Penn Kemble fellow at the National Endowment for Democracy.
