On March 11 and 12th, 2021, TAM students took part in virtual visits to several DC institutions and met with officials connected to that area. Zoom enabled us to be a bit creative in what we defined as DC-specific. Though we usually do this trip in person and stay in DC over fall break, the pandemic meant that we had to take a different approach. We missed seeing TAM grads at our annual DC reunion, but we were pleased that the virtual format enabled us to interact with so many different site-visit hosts in order to get a sense of the different professional environments in which TAM graduates work. We started the “trip” off with a session with Mercedes Garcia Perez who works at the Delegation of the European Union to the US. Ms.Garcia is the Head of the Global Issues and Innovation section. After an hour-long exchange with her, we met with two US Foreign Service Officers – one in Lisbon and one in Frankfurt. Then we met with a TAM graduate, Esha Grover ’15, who also works for the US Department of State at Voice of America. The next day, we met with three TAM graduates at Crisis24, Megan Sechehay ‘04, Zack Dunnam ‘13, and Ben Thorne ’14; and two at the Bertelsmann Foundation, Jeff Brown ‘15 and Brandon Bohrn ‘19. Finally, Brandon gave a public event focused on his first solo publication for Bertelsmann, “Federalism in Crisis.” We are very grateful to all of our hosts and hope we can resume the in-person tradition in DC in October!
